Employers - Utilize Virtual Business Forums to Highlight Industry Needs |
The Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas virtual business forums for
employers return in October. As part of its strategic plan, the
workforce board is engaging business leaders in essential industries
to gather their input through polling questions and group discussions.
Forums will take place during the month of October for the healthcare, education,
manufacturing, and transportation industries.
These forums allow employers to share their operational and skilled talent needs
through direct participation by providing the board with valuable local wisdom to
help create a winning approach to on-going workforce development strategies.

"Southeast Texas Works!" PODCAST UPDATE
Mayor Roy West, newly elected mayor of the City of Beaumont, was the podcast guest
in September and shared a positive and upbeat message about the city. A native
of Beaumont, Texas, West enthusiastically explains his stance community involvement,
mentoring young students to help improve their academic success, and appreciating
the natural resources of the area. He talks about transportation and traffic
congestion, issues resolved through working closely with the petrochemical industry,

NDEAM - Inclusion Works!
Disability in our nation ranges from children to elderly and disabled veterans
and has direct impact in our community. October is National Disability Employment
Awareness Month and Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas is joining with our partners
to raise awareness to several disabilities connecting employers and disabled citizens.
This year we are celebrating by hosting "NDEAM - Inclusion Works!" where Dr. Temple
Grandin will be our guest speaker. Dr. Grandin is an award-winning author, professor,
and strong autism advocate. She overcame her own challenges with severe autism and
now shares tips and strategies that helped her be successful. She went on to star
in the HBO movie "Temple Grandin" where her story was told, how she overcame her
obstacles despite her disability.

Take Note: On the Job Training - A WIN-WIN for
Employers and Job seekers
Our Business and Employer Services team invites employers to learn about On-the-Job
Training (OJT) program. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for individuals
who already possess some job-related skills and knowledge to "learn as they earn".
Employers who hire an individual and implement an OJT training plan can benefit by
being reimbursed up to 50% of a worker's wages during the training period.
