Workforce Development Month Building A competitive workforce for Southeast Texas |
September marks Workforce Development Month, a time to celebrate the critical role workforce development plays in services to employers and job seekers and
our community. Workforce Development Month highlights ongoing efforts to equip workers with the skills needed to excel in today's competitive job market.
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas offers a variety of services, including training programs, career counseling, and job placement, connecting job seekers
with employment opportunities and helping businesses find the talent needed to grow.
One of our key initiatives this month is a partnership with S&B Engineers to launch an On-the-Job Training (OJT) Youth Cohort for pipefitter helpers. This cohort,
composed of 10 recent high school graduates from Hardin-Jefferson and Port Arthur school districts, began their 16-week training on July 15, 2024. These trainees
are earning $18 per hour while learning valuable skills in the pipefitting trade.
In addition to technical training, the program includes a financial literacy component, designed to help these young adults manage their newfound income responsibly.
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas partnered with Lori Higgins of Rave Financial to provide this training. Lori and her team are visiting the S&B project site twice
weekly, providing personalized financial education through structured materials, including PowerPoint presentations, an online financial wellness program, and interactive
assessments like the Financial Wellness Check Up and Money Personality quiz. Key topics include budgeting basics, credit score management, car buying, and more.
Rave Financials' involvement has been instrumental in ensuring these trainees receive the financial skills they need to succeed, making this a comprehensive and
impactful OJT experience. As we celebrate Workforce Development Month, we encourage employers and job seekers to take advantage of the many resources Workforce Solutions
