Record Number of Students Attend the Fall 2018 Youth Career Expo

"Connect To Your Future!"

The 4th Annual "Connect to your Future!" Youth Career Expo was held Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Ford Park. During the Expo 3,372 students experienced many different career opportunities and training programs available in Southeast Texas through direct interactions with area employers and institutions of higher education. At our final tally, this fall's event saw an increase of 936 students from 30 different school districts.

During their time at the Expo, students attended a workshop, facilitated by members of the Southeast Texas Human Resources Association (SETHRA), where they learned about important employability skills such as interviewing and resume writing.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

Governor Greg Abbott designated October as "Persons with Disabilities History and Awareness Month". In his official declaration, Governor Abbott encourages citizens to learn about the positive achievements of Texans with disabilities and their contributions. The declaration coincides with the Texas HireAbility campaign and the National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has collaborated with Vocational Rehabilitation Services to increase local awareness to the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. A 'Learn and Connect' networking event for employers and businesses is scheduled for Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at The ARC of Greater Beaumont.
