"Southeast Texas Works!" PODCAST UPDATE
In celebration of Veterans Day and the Hiring Red, White and You! Veterans Job Fair,
November saw the re-release of a previously released podcast: Helping Veterans
Transition to the Civilian Labor Force. The "Best Of Southeast Texas Works Podcast"
episode features Ms. Jo Ikard, a Port Arthur, Texas, native and a USMC veteran, currently
serving as District Supervisor Gulf Coast, Texas Veterans Commission (TVC). Ikard discusses
several initiatives offered through TVC to help Veterans transition successfully back into
civilian life and shares some insight into her background.
Later in November, our podcast session featured Shandi Conner and Marcus Henslee with Associated
Builders and Contractors, Inc (ABC) Southeast Texas Chapter. Conner is the Chapter president and
Henslee is the education vice-chair. ABC is well known for offering flexible training schedules
and high-level courses which help to create skilled craft workers for employer members.
Henslee and Conner explain ABC's unique partnership with industry in Southeast Texas and
their commitment to workforce development.

E32: Hispanic Business Association of Southeast Texas
Raquel Ocho and Erika Banda Meza of the Hispanic Business Association of Southeast
Texas join the show to talk about the needs and accomplishments of Hispanic businesses
in our area. Their organization strives to uplift Spanish-speaking employers and
entrepreneurs, educate them, and provide tools for growth.
E38: ExxonMobil 409 Energy Scholars
ExxonMobil Beaumont Area Public & Government Affairs Advisor Andrew Ortiz joins the
show to talk about the company's 409 Energy Scholars program. The two-week program
introduces incoming Beaumont ISD seniors to the petrochemical industry and provides
information about available careers at the Beaumont-area operation. Participant
Brian Godina, senior at West Brook Senior High School, also joins the podcast to
talk about his experience.
