As we faced the challenges of 2021, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas continued to implement strategies to effectively serve our communities and help meet our employers' manpower needs. Our efforts focused on assisting employers that needed to hire workers and individuals who had lost their jobs due to no fault of their own and were seeking employment. Since the onset of the COVID pandemic, the Southeast Texas metropolitan statistical area experienced significant improvement in employment. We see this when comparing the local unemployment rate for October 2021 (7.6 percent) with October 2020 (10.2 percent). Currently, there are a record number of employment opportunities across a variety of industries in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin counties, with as many as 400 opportunities available daily in the job bank,

In February 2021, the Virtual Youth Career Expo "Connect to Your Future!" hosted 2,534 students via the EasyVirtual Event on-line platform. High school students throughout Southeast Texas and surrounding counties were able to participate as part of class assignments, meet with 75 Exhibitors, educational institutions, training providers, and military branch personnel. Southeast extended Virtual, remote access by creating on-line applications, workshops, and orientations, in multi-lingual formats, for job seekers and program participants. "Our ability to meet our job seekers and employers in the virtual or face-to-face environment has been critical in keeping our local area competitive and prepared for the robust job market", stated Mary Hammon, executive director. "With on-going collaboration with our business and community partners, we can continue support the economic growth of Southeast Texas."

As we close out 2021, we want to thank our community and industry partners, employers, businesses, and job seekers for participating in hiring events and job fairs. To date, a total of 85 events, each averaging 430 job seekers and 57 employers have been held.

As 2021 draws to a close, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas expresses appreciation and looks forward, through our commitment to our local communities, for a healthy, safe, and productive 2022.

Happy Holidays!

A World-Class Competitive Workforce for Southeast Texas.
