Virtual Youth Career Expo Launches
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has announced registration and sponsorships
for the 2021 Virtual Youth Career Expo "Connect to Your Future!" In 2021, the
Youth Career Expo will be hosted on EasyVirtual Fair, an engaging and exciting
on-line event platform. Due to the effects of the ongoing pandemic, Workforce
Solutions Southeast Texas board members and Steering committee overwhelmingly
support this innovative, technological approach to reach thousands of local high
school students, our workforce of the future. With EasyVirtual, students can access
content from desk tops, tablets, and smart phones.
The Youth Career Expo, designed with the goal to provide students with knowledge
of local high growth/high demand occupations and careers in Southeast Texas, has
connected to as many as 12,000 students over the past five years. Teachers,
counselors, and school leadership throughout Southeast and Deep East Texas actively
plan for their students to attend this one of a kind event.

S&B Selected as Finalists for State Award
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) announced that S&B Engineers and Constructors,
nominated by Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas, was selected as one of the three
finalist for the 2020 Large Employer of the Year Award. S&B was among 51 private-sector
employers nominated by boards throughout the state for collaboration and successful
partnership with the workforce system.

Take Note! Employers - Prepare to take Your Tax Credits
Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a program designed to benefit
employers who hire individuals from specific target populations and
enable these individuals the opportunity to earn a steady income.
WOTC provides tax credits ranging from $1,200 to $9,600 per eligible
employee during an applicable tax year. Minimum employment and retention
periods apply. The program was authorized by the US Congress through December 31, 2020.
The State of Texas also offers a tax benefit for employers that pay
certain state taxes and hire individuals who are Medicaid clients or
have received monetary support through Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF) program.

Be Aware of UI Fraud
We encourage all employers and businesses to be aware of the increase in
Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits fraud. Our local offices have received
several calls from businesses in Southeast Texas requesting assistance for
fraudulent UI claims that adversely impact the identity of owners or other
business representatives.

Southeast Texas Labor Market Information Overview: October 2020
The unemployment rate for Southeast Texas improved to 10.0 percent for October,
down slight more than 2 percentage points from September's rate of 12.2.
The Goods Producing super sector, Mining, Logging and Construction posted the
largest increase in employment in October with 1,200 jobs, a 5.5 percent month-to-month
uptick from September. The Southeast Texas manufacturing sector added 900 jobs in
October, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
