FAME Graduates Join Local Workforce
Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) is celebrating a major milestone—the first graduating class of the Golden Triangle Chapter of the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program. On Friday, May 16, students from the inaugural cohort received their Associate of Applied Science in Electromechanical Technology, officially stepping into the region's growing advanced manufacturing workforce.

The FAME program, launched locally in 2022, is a partnership between LSCO and several key industry leaders in Southeast Texas, including Cloeren Inc., United Rentals, ISS/Buna Electric Motor Service, and Chevron Phillips Chemical. Over five semesters, students split their time between hands-on training at their sponsoring company and classroom instruction at LSCO. By graduation, they've gained real-world experience, earned a degree, and avoided student debt.

"This program is the definition of workforce innovation," said LSCO President Dr. Thomas Johnson. "FAME students graduate not only with a college degree but with real-world experience and no student debt. This is exactly the kind of partnership our region needs to fill critical roles in industry and provide life-changing opportunities for students."

Several of the students already have full-time job offers lined up, thanks to the strong support from their sponsoring employers. The program's model is working and the demand for skilled workers continues to grow.

The Golden Triangle FAME Chapter is part of a national network supported by The Manufacturing Institute, originally founded by Toyota. LSCO plans to continue growing high-impact workforce programs like FAME to support students and meet the needs of local employers.
