Industry Sector Partnership Establishes Alignment with Local Industry

Business Solutions Consultants, Ira McNeil and Lauren Van Gerven, have taken the lead for the workforce board in developing a coalition, the Southeast Texas Petrochemical Manufacturing Sector Partnership, to serve as a vehicle to strategize and implement industry-driven solutions related to talent, infrastructure, innovation, export promotion, marketing, and other shared industry related needs.

According to McNeil, the following vision statement is the guiding principle for the group:

"Sustaining a strong petrochemical and manufacturing industry workforce that is large enough to support current and forecasted economic growth in Southeast Texas whose skills, qualifications and certifications align with the needs of the local industry."

Workforce 'Academy' Helps Build Prepared Workforce

Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has expanded job readiness activities for individuals looking for employment through the implementation of the Workforce Readiness Academy (WRA). The 'academy' is 27 total hours of focused instruction for job seekers who want to improve their basic skills in computer applications, such as WORD (word processing) and EXCEL (spreadsheet). Other classes, including "Interesting Interview" and "Work Habits that Work", teach work-ready, soft skills to help prepare students for success in the workplace. "The Workforce Academy is a win-win for the job seeker and our employers. Many employers have expressed concern with the quality of applicant's soft skills", commented Marilyn Smith. "We want to continue to provide work-ready applicants who can bring value, through an upgraded skill-level, to employers in Southeast Texas."

It's not too Early - Sponsor the 2017 Youth Career Expo!

“Connect to Your Future!”

The 3rd Annual Youth Career Expo, hosted by Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas and its partners, is scheduled for September 28, 2017, at Ford Park. This year, we expect an increase in the number of students at the Expo, which received great reviews from all 27 participating school districts last year.

Financial sponsorships help to ensure students receive valuable information regarding the many education and training opportunities in Southeast Texas, in addition to the numerous high-wage, demand occupations available in our area.
