On April 28, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas cohosted a networking event for various social services businesses and agencies in the area. The overall goal of the "Sharing Solutions Awareness Event" was to improve understanding and cooperation between organizations recognized throughout the community for providing exceptional service and support to individuals and families in need. Sharing Solutions partners included Region 5 Education Service Center Adult Education and Literacy (AEL), Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC), and Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT). As facilitator, Workforce Solutions sought to enhance the collaboration between these entities, help identify challenges to better serve the community, promote health and wellness, education, training and job readiness. Fifty-four (54) people representing twenty-four (24) organizations attended the event.

Dr. J. Michael Shahan, president, Lamar State College Orange, received recognition as a "Pioneer" Board Member for his 19 years of service on the workforce board.

Latest Labor Market Stats |
Southeast Texas labor market information from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicated good news on the employment front. The April 2016 unemployment rate is 6.1 percent for Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties, down .3 percent from March’s UI rate.
