"Southeast Texas Works!" PODCAST UPDATE
The March 2023 podcast release, "Law Enforcement Careers with Texas DPS", features
two Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers, Sergeant Shanna Clark and
Sergeant Grant Belvin. Clark shares insight on being a woman in a male-dominated
occupation and stresses the importance of knowing the laws of the state as well as
being in top physical shape. Sergeant Belvin, a frequent participant in local job
fairs, talks about various careers in public safety including forensic science and
support staff. Both sergeants share their personal story of becoming a public safety
officer.
In April, look for two new podcasts releases:
Local businesswomen, with family ties and strong entrepreneurial spirit, Raquel Ochoa
and Erika Banda Meza, share their vision of supporting the Hispanic community through
the Hispanic Business Association of Southeast Texas.
Trey Berryman and Justin Cooper, representing the Southeast Texas Building and Construction
Trades Council, share pertinent information regarding the value of apprenticeships and
the importance of building a skilled workforce of plumbers, pipefitters, and electricians.
Berry and Cooper are workforce board members and the Council was a Platinum sponsor for
the 2022 Youth Career Expo.

the Port of Port Arthur joins the podcast to talk about the port's expansion and how the

E13: A Second Chance for Re-entrants - Rachel Grove, Assistant US Attorney
with the Department of Justice Eastern District of Texas, joins the show to talk about programs
available through the Jefferson County Bar Association and Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas
that give re-entrants a second chance to earn a living.
