Awards Presentation and Beaumont Workforce Center Open House Scheduled

Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas will honor the 2016 outstanding employers, job seekers, sponsors and partners at its Board Meeting, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, 9:30 a.m., in the Workforce Auditorium. The Awards of Excellence presentation will recognize the Local Employer of Excellence and Small Employer of the Year for 2016. These businesses have demonstrated effective collaboration with the workforce system through the implementation of innovative initiatives which benefit the local economy, communities and workers.

The workforce board will also recognize the sponsors and partners for the 2nd Annual Youth Career Expo, which was held September 29, 2016, at Ford Park. The support of the Youth Career sponsors and partners expanded the capacity of the event and helped to connect 2,563 students with 119 Exhibitors who demonstrated various high demand/high wage jobs and occupational opportunities available in Southeast Texas.

Employers and Students Benefit through Internship Opportunities

Work experience in a business in the local community is looked upon as a ‘dream opportunity’ for many students as they plan their future education and career path. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), including its 28 local workforce boards, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) announced the “Texas Internship Challenge” to promote and increase the availability of internships for students in Texas. The initiative is supported by state educators and several large employers including Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas, Accenture, and Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance.

Internships have proven to be effective in helping students build needed workplace skills and prepare students for the real world of work, according to comments by TWC Employer Commission Ruth Hughes. Several published business commentaries point to a major benefit of internship programs for employers – finding future employees.
