It’s been all about Youth at the Workforce Centers of Southeast Texas during March. As part of the recruitment efforts to prepare and engage eligible youth in the 2014 Summer Youth Work initiative, Workforce staff traveled to several local schools and provided on-site “work-ready” sessions such as Interviewing Techniques and Resume Preparation.

In Southeast Texas, approximately thirty (30) percent of open and available jobs in WorkInTexas.com are denoted as Federal Contractor Job Listings (FCJL) and offer great employment and wage-earning opportunities for local job seekers. The job opportunities include occupations such as Account Executives, Designers, Engineers, Field Technicians, Inspectors, Electricians, Mechanics, and Pipe fitters. Most employers posting job opportunities pay attention to wages, experience, and educational requirements. However, due to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), businesses that are federal contractors and sub-contractors must pay special attention on how their jobs are posted and viewed by job applicants.

Latest Labor Market Stats |
The State of Texas added 37,600 jobs in February 2014 with a statewide rate of 5.7 percent. This rate was a full percentage point below the national rate f 6.7 percent. For Southeast Texas, the unemployment rate was 9.1 percent, slightly down from January, with the majority of local industries experiencing slight increase or holding steady.
