Texas Unemployment Rate Stands at 8.2%.
The latest Labor Market Indicators show little improvement for Southeast Texas, but it isn’t all bad news.

The Texas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 8.2% in January, unchanged from December 2009. On a slightly positive note, Texas unemployment levels continue to trend well below the U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 9.7%.

Due to inclement weather on the East Coast, however, the Labor Department has been delayed in issuing seasonally adjusted numbers for individual market areas within the state. Unadjusted numbers show unemployment in Southeast Texas increasing from 10.4% in December 2009 to 11.0% in January 2010 for Jefferson, Hardin and Orange counties.

Hardin County and the City of Beaumont fared the best, with unemployment rates for January hovering at 9.9%. The City of Port Arthur remains the hardest hit, with unemployment increasing to 15.3% -- up from 13% unemployment a year ago and from 14.5% in December 2009
