Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas Launches Podcast Series
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has launched a new podcast series, "Southeast Texas Works!", highlight issues and share resources regarding workforce needs and employment demands specific to our area. The Podcast's content will feature topics such as economic development, job projections, funding for small businesses, and keeping pace with workforce training requirements. Returning to work after the pandemic, the need for childcare, and fostering a positive community environment, will be discussed by local subject-matter experts. Guests on the podcasts include business leaders, elected officials, educators, professional services providers, community-based organizations, and training institutions in Southeast Texas, to provide the listening audience with a greater understanding of the important relationship between economic growth, employment opportunities, a skilled workforce, and overall community vitality.

"We are excited to expand our outreach to the community with our Podcast series", stated Mary Hammon, executive director. "Our strategic goals require new and innovative methods to collaborate with workforce partners. We will continue to share these initiatives and resources with those we serve."

In the "Port of Beaumont-Propelling Growth in Southeast Texas" podcast, Sadé Chick, director, Corporate Affairs, comments, "Our region has done an excellent job especially in bringing the maritime industry into focus". Chick goes on to explain the overall importance of maritime and the thousands of jobs generated by cargo activity. She expresses the critical importance of connecting to middle and high school students as they make educational and career decisions for their future.

Heather Champion, M.Ed., LPC, Director of Business Development/Quality Assurance, Spindletop Center, provides a very relatable overview of the importance of mental health in the podcast, "Mental Health, the Pandemic, and Returning to Work". She outlines steps employers can take to help their employees manage mental health throughout the current health crisis. Champion also details various careers in the mental health field and encourages interested individuals to apply for Spindletop's employment opportunities.

In the most recent podcast, Bill Allen, president of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, and Kristie Young, vice president of Economic development, explain the role of the Chamber in economic development for the City of Beaumont and the importance of attracting new employers to the area. Allen, who also serves on the workforce board, discusses the significance of the Chamber's leadership-building programs, including the success of the Beaumont Champions initiative.
