Employer Survey Results
Feedback from the local businesses that replied to the Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas
COVID-19 Survey indicated owners and operators taking immediate actions to protect their
employees and customers. 100% of the -40- respondents answered adding additional sanitizing
procedures. Other changes in normal business procedures due to
COVID-19 included:
- Rotating office shifts
- Social distancing markups on floors
- PPE, Masks, Gloves
- Checking employee's temperatures
- Work from Home
- Partitions, Plexiglas
Eighty-six (86) percent of respondents indicated some of their employees were laid
off or furloughed due to the stay at home orders. The Stay at Home mandate, in turn,
directly impacted business revenues. Survey respondents indicated revenue losses from
five (5) percent to as much as ninety-five (95) percent. Forty-five (45) percent of
the respondents participated in the Payroll Protection Program, a loan designed to provide
a monetary incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll and help

Paycheck Protection Program Extended
On July 6, 2020, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for businesses was extended through August 8, 2020.
PPP was created to provide economic relief to businesses and help companies retain their workforce
during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Take Note! Local UI Claimant Outreach Update - July
Workforce Solutions Southeast is tracking local data related to outreach and assistance to Unemployment
Insurance (UI) benefits claimants. Many workers are back on the UI rolls due to the resurgence of COVID-19
in Texas and the state's scaling back of allowable business activity since late June.

Providing Rapid Response Services during COVID-19
Rapid Response provides early intervention assistance designed to transition workers to their next
employment as soon as possible. These services are customized, based on the needs of the
company and the needs of the affected employees. Any Southeast Texas employer laying off
workers may request Rapid Response services for their employees.

Southeast Texas Labor Market Information Overview: June 2020
The Leisure and Hospitality industry in Southeast Texas lead job growth and helped to
improve the unemployment rate to 12.8 percent (not seasonally adjusted) in June,
a drop of 5 percentage points from May's rate of 17.8 percent.
