The new Workforce Center on Wheels
Workforce Solutions has New Mobile Unit to serve Southeast Texas
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has received its mobile unit, the new
'workforce on wheels'. The vehicle is more compact and easier to maneuver
through traffic and park than previous units. Installed on board is a total
of seven personal computers, each with 24 inch viewing monitors with access
the Internet wherever cell phone service is available. A 40 inch LCD monitor
is also in the mobile lab and will be used for viewing tutorials, webinars,
and other media presentations.
Rear lift door on Mobile Unit
Job seekers using the mobile unit will have access to most of the services usually
offered in a full-service workforce center including job search assistance, creating
resumes, updating WorkInTexas.com profiles, completing on-line applications and researching
labor market information. "The new mobile unit will be valuable for assisting job
seekers and employers during disaster recovery", stated Mary Hammon, Deputy Director.
"In addition, we can bring services to job seekers in rural areas of the workforce
development area and assist businesses during special employment situations."
The new mobile unit is totally ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible and
includes a rear lift device with capacity of up to 800 pounds.
Workstation with wireless keyboard
Workforce center and Board staff are currently being trained to operate and maintain
the mobile unit's power equipment, establish Internet connection, and safely operate
the lift door. The Board's technology staff is in the final stages of testing the
equipment and ensuring all features of the new unit, such as the height-adjustable desk,
are installed correctly. Official launch date of the new Workforce Center on Wheels
