Local Industry Opens Doors to Businesses in Southeast Texas

ExxonMobil has launched the Southeast Texas Local Business Initiative to give local businesses the opportunity to compete for work on major construction projects in Beaumont, Texas.

According to information on the ExxonMobil’s website, businesses with principal offices in Jefferson County may receive preference and priority consideration, except where not reasonably possible to do so, for work on major construction projects. Orange and Hardin county businesses, part of the Southeast Texas workforce development area (WDA), along with other counties in the labor shed are also encouraged to submit free expression of interest forms by September 1, 2018, to be considered to bid on upcoming work.

New Members Join Workforce Development Board

Southeast Workforce Development Board will welcome two new members to its ranks this month, Ana Pereda and Thomas Gage.

Pereda is currently vice president of Economic Development for the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and will represent economic development, City of Beaumont, on the Board.

Gage comes to the Board with over 40 years of manufacturing industry experience.

Latest Labor Market Stats
The Southeast Texas unemployment rate for June was 6.4 percent, up slightly from 5.9 percent in May. The area's strongest industry job growth, as indicated by Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates, was in the Goods Producing supersector industry Mining, Logging and Construction, which posted 700 more jobs in June, a 3.6 percent monthly gain.
