New Members Join Workforce Development Board

Ana Pereda, Board member
Pereda is currently vice president of Economic Development for the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and will represent economic development, City of Beaumont, on the Board. She has an extensive background in entrepreneurship and offers this advice to people seeking a successful career, “Find the right occupation that matches your interests. Invest in yourself, work towards a certification or degree that will give you a competitive advantage.” Pereda began her professional career by leading the start-up and reengineering of international money transfer companies in the United States and in Mexico. She also worked as an advisor for Lamar University Small Business Development Center(SBDC), helping new and existing business owners prepare and plan for success. Pereda earned a major in finance from Tec de Monterrey and holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Lamar University Beaumont.

Thomas Gage, Board member
Gage comes to the Board with over 40 years of manufacturing industry experience. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of refinery operations and has worked as a shutdown coordinator and unit supervisor. Gage worked as a safety specialist where he maintained federal compliance for a refinery and managed the Fire Brigade/Rescue Team. He currently manages safety and the maintenance inspection program for South Hampton Resources, Inc. Gage offers this guidance to individuals seeking employment in today’s economy, “You must get or have the basics; reading, writing, and arithmetic. Be aware of the diversity of people in the community and in the workforce. Do not let a hurdle of race, religion, or culture become a barrier. A barrier can stop you; a hurdle is something you can get over or go around to complete your goals.” Gage will represent Private sector – Hardin County on the workforce board.
The Board members look forward to working with Gage and Pereda to continue to strengthen business and industry collaboration and foster on-going economic growth throughout Southeast Texas.
