Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act - Better for Employers and Communities

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the bicameral legislation passed in 2014, updated the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and brought federal regulations for the public workforce system into the 21st century. For employers and businesses, WIOA placed more emphasis on creating easier access to training and acquiring work-based, demand skills for job seekers.

As the current workforce in Texas and the United States retires and leaves the workforce, the reduction in barriers to employment and training is critical to sustaining a skilled, competitive workforce. WIOA’s various funding opportunities, including state grants, strongly encourages industry sector partnerships, apprenticeships, On-the-job training and work-based approaches to training. Additionally, through WIOA, workforce development strategies can be aligned to economic development efforts in communities to support local and regional economic growth.

Providers – Plan to Attend the Southeast Texas Child Care Industry Conference

Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas and its partners present the 3RD Annual Early Care and Education Conference on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Check-in starts at 7:00 am. The Conference is integral part of the board’s strategies to continue to improve the quality of child care services in the region through providing access to leading-edge, best practices, education and certification for child care workers and professionals. Research indicates high-quality child care improves a child’s school-readiness and may help student’s achieve better academic success in the future. This year's Conference will be held at Region 5 Service Center, a collaborating partner for the event.
