With new opportunities in store for job seekers in 2024, Workforce Solutions Southeast
Texas welcomed the Texas Army National Guard into the Beaumont Workforce center on
January 11th. The collaboration came about with the same vision of building a world -
class workforce for Southeast Texas and equipping the community with prospects to
attain skills in - demand, high - growth occupations, including the military.
The Texas National Guard was represented by Staff Sergeants Jeremy Kempt and Samantha Meynig
in the Beaumont workforce center. Kempt explained the National Guard accepts individuals
between ages 17 and 34. Interested persons must pass the ASVAB (basic entry military test)
before being sent to basic training. Throughout 10 weeks of basic training, the trainees
will meet soldiers from other branches of the military and train together as they undergo
the transition from civilians to soldiers. Enlisting into the National Guard has several
benefits, including financial incentives. After successfully completing the entry test,
Advanced Individual Training (AIT) is required based on the chosen occupation. The most
in demand jobs are mechanics, engineers, supply, and information technology technicians
which corelates to the Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas targeted occupations list.
Additional benefits include education financial assistance for college or career school.
Staff Sergeant Kempt wants interested job seekers to understand they can enlist in the
National Guard and enroll in higher education to receive a degree or credential during service.
The Texas Army National Guard plans to participate in upcoming workforce events including
the annual Youth Career Expo which hosts as many as 3,000 students from Southeast Texas schools.
Individuals interested in military service or training may contact workforce center staff
