Success Story - Paid Work Experience Cultivates Skills of a Young Parent
Being a single parent with a disabled child led Mireya Perez to seek job assistance through the workforce solutions center. Taking care of her disabled child was a priority and Perez needed a position that would allow her to provide for herself and her child. Workforce staff designed a paid work position with a local chamber with the expectation to increase Perez's confidence in her abilities which included knowing American Sign Language.

She assisted the Chamber with numerous administrative and technical tasks. Perez used her signing skills to assist the Chamber's presentations and designed background screens for use in on-line, virtual meetings. The Chamber has commented positively to several businesses regarding the successful experience with Perez through the Paid Work program and has a pending job offer for Perez. "This experience has motivated me and pushed me to go back to school and accomplish my goals", stated Perez. "I am thankful."
