Virtual Youth Career Expo - Over 6,000 Students Signed-up to Participate
Attendance scheduled for the 2021 Virtual Youth Career Expo, hosted by Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas, stands at 6,600 students, according to Kevin King, the event lead coordinator. "We're working diligently to ensure all interested students will be able to access this new Expo format", King said. "I want to thank all our Exhibitors, who have embraced the virtual environment, set up their booths, and added valuable, engaging content for local students to experience."

The Youth Career Expo will take place during the entire month of February 2021, each Thursday, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon. The scheduling will allow teachers and counselors in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin county school districts the flexibility to assign students to attend. Districts throughout Region 5 Education Service Center service area have also allowed their students to participate in the virtual event.

Platinum Sponsors for the Youth Career Expo include Industry of Southeast Texas (ISET) and JK Chevrolet. ISET is a consortium representing chemical and manufacturing refineries in the area. As a continuing supporter of the Event, the ISET coordinators included an emphasis on Women in Industry in their STEM Pavilion booth. Students will be able to view a panel discussion with women engineers who work in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Orange. JK Chevrolet is the newest Platinum Sponsor and partner in the Board's workforce development initiatives. Robert Turner, Owner of JK Chevrolet Subaru, views the event as a unique opportunity to reach students, especially those interested in occupations such as sales, customer service, business management, and electronics. "Students need to be exposed to selling and servicing vehicles, whether fossil fuel or battery electric, to ensure all of our personal transportation needs can be addressed now and in the future."

Event Gold Sponsors include Lamar State College Port Arthur, Lamar Institute of Technology, Golden Pass LNG, and Port of Port Arthur. Silver-level contributors are Golden Triangle Business Roundtable, Lamar State College Orange, Entergy Texas, Port of Beaumont, and The Lee Group.
