Port Arthur Independent School District (Port Arthur ISD) and Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSC-PA), in successful collaboration with industry and workforce development, received a $215,250 dual-credit training grant. In response to future worker demands from leading industrial and petrochemical refiners in Southeast Texas, such as MOTIVA and BASF Total, LSC-PA and Port Arthur ISD worked closely together, according to Dr. Ben Stafford, Dean of Workforce Training, to ensure junior and high school students interested in process operations have an opportunity to get the education and training at a local institution. Along with previous allocations from the state legislature, LSC-PA was able to expand facilities for process technology to accommodate more students. Port Arthur ISD will have a guaranteed number of student slots each semester. The Dual Credit grant supports curriculum focused on various occupations of process technology which are high skilled, high demand, and high wage jobs in Southeast Texas.
