 Employers Continue to Partner with Workforce to Recruit & Hire
Although Southeast Texas’ December unemployment rate inched up by .8 percent, local employers
are still utilizing the workforce centers to recruit and hire new employees. In the last three months of
2012, 75 businesses partnered with Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas to recruit from more than
800 job seekers. Those positions included mechanical engineers, inventory specialists, security
officers, truck drivers, health care specialists, operators, riggers, valve technicians, and

Occupations in construction/extraction, transportation/material moving, and production continue to
lead with the largest number of job openings in Southeast Texas.

Job Seeker Ambassador - Job Retention is the Goal
Personal responsibility and taking care of family are the primary goals for those who receive
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Texas. The Workforce Centers honor those
job seekers who take these goals to heart and work effectively with staff to improve the lives of
themselves and their family. We congratulate Dorothy Neal as our “Job Seeker Ambassador” for
her success in doing so.

Neal came to the Workforce Center needing guidance to find suitable employment, child care
assistance and help with effective job search. A workforce career specialist assessed Neal’s work
skills and outlined a course of job-readiness workshops where she participated in mock
job interviews.

Since 2004, (WIT) has helped employers and job seekers connect and is the State of Texas’ premier labor exchange tool.

New unemployment figures released last Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission showed that 2012 wrapped with an overall annual decrease in the unemployment rate for the state and almost all of Southeast Texas.
