Job Seeker Ambassador - Job Retention is the Goal

Bookmark and Share

Personal responsibility and taking care of family are the primary goals for those who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Texas. The Workforce Centers honor those job seekers who take these goals to heart and work effectively with staff to improve the lives of themselves and their family. We congratulate Dorothy Neal as our “Job Seeker Ambassador” for her success in doing so.

Neal came to the Workforce Center needing guidance to find suitable employment, child care assistance and help with effective job search. A workforce career specialist assessed Neal’s work skills and outlined a course of job-readiness workshops where she participated in mock job interviews. The career specialist also showed Neal how to use Internet job search engines, including WorkInTexas.com and other job boards, to find area job postings. Neal was hired by a local restaurant and, just one year later, has been promoted to shift manager. Neal is now self-sufficient and no longer receiving public assistance.

Her desire and motivation to succeed has prompted support and positive comments from Neal’s manager, stating she is known for her “positive attitude, punctuality and devotion” to her job. According to Beaumont Workforce Center Manager Dana Willis, Neal is truly a great example of moving from welfare to self sufficiency due to her job retention. Congratulations to Dorothy Neal for being selected as Job Seeker Ambassador!
