Although Southeast Texas’ December unemployment rate inched up by .8 percent, local employers are still utilizing the workforce centers to recruit and hire new employees. In the last three months of 2012, 75 businesses partnered with Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas to recruit from more than 800 job seekers. Those positions included mechanical engineers, inventory specialists, security officers, truck drivers, health care specialists, operators, riggers, valve technicians, and hydro-blasters.

Occupations in construction/extraction, transportation/material moving, and production continue to lead with the largest number of job openings in Southeast Texas.

Coastal Staffing used their hiring event at the Beaumont center to hire vacuum truck operators and hydro-blasters for a local refinery. The company has plans to use the workforce center’s computer lab for additional hiring events. Westex Security held an event for security officers and Prince Enterprises Staffing recruited for healthcare positions.

With the projected expansion of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities, a new oil dock and refinery boiler unit construction in Port Arthur, improvements at the Port of Beaumont and the Regional Airport’s newly expanded air services, expectations are high that recruitment and hiring will continue to increase in Southeast Texas.
