"Southeast Texas Works!" PODCAST UPDATE
The February 2023 podcast release was a much-anticipated conversation with William "Will" Lutz,
Texas Workforce Commission economist. Lutz travels throughout the state of Texas providing
workforce boards insight on interpreting data specific to their area. Of particular interest
is how Will explains industry concentration differences and how this difference affects the
unemployment rate. He discusses the lingering effect of COVID on employment and how youth can
use labor market information to help them make a career choice.
In January, the podcast entitled "Industry Leaders Discuss the Teacher Externship Program"
was released. This podcast features Camille Briggs with TotalEnergies, Nicole Toney, representing
the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, and Sharita Gardner, with the Port of Port Arthur, host
sites for the 2022 Externship Program. These business representatives discuss the value of the
Teacher Externship initiative and the importance of providing real-world academic and technical
skills with students in the classroom.
In March, look for a podcast featuring Texas Department of Public Safety. Sgts. Grant
Belvin and Shana Clark join the show to talk about careers in law enforcement, including
what it takes to become a Texas State Trooper. Forensic science and other careers at DPS
are also discussed.
