Workforce Connects: Texas Mutual
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas is excited to announce it has been awarded an $85,000 grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company as part of its 2024 Workforce Development and Safety Training initiative. This funding will directly support the 2025 Teacher Externship Program, a transformative initiative designed to connect educators with real-world workforce experiences.

Taking place in June 2025, the Teacher Externship Program will provide middle school and high school educators from Jefferson, Hardin, and Orange counties with the opportunity to visit local employer host sites and explore in-demand industries. The program aims to bridge classroom education with the needs of the workforce by equipping educators with first-hand knowledge of the skills and career pathways that are vital to Southeast Texas' economy. Educators will use this experience to create lesson plans and presentations to inspire students and guide them toward fulfilling career opportunities in their local communities.

"This $85,000 grant will enable us to strengthen the connection between education and workforce development," said Melanie Williams, Executive Director of Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas. "By providing teachers with direct exposure to in-demand industries, we're ensuring students gain valuable insights into career opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in Southeast Texas' thriving industries."

The Teacher Externship Program is one of nearly 70 projects statewide to receive funding as part of Texas Mutual's $4.5 million investment in workforce development and safety training in 2024. This initiative underscores Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas' dedication to fostering a skilled workforce and empowering the region's youth to achieve career success.
