Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas appreciates the partnerships and connections made throughout Southeast Texas with employers, industry and educational leaders, economic development specialists, and job seekers. Many of you visited our workforce centers, attended outreach activities, board meetings, seminars, virtual forums, job fairs, and hiring events. In 2023 we focused on jobs and skills in demand, leading us to a successful and record-breaking year consisting of events and initiatives to continue effective workforce development of Southeast Texas.
  • Our Career Coach visited schools throughout Southeast Texas with virtual reality headsets, interview tips, and resume advice. The career coach made a significant impact on the next generation, our workforce of the future, by visiting 21 schools and reaching over 4,000 students.
  • Hiring Red, White and You! A statewide veterans Job Fair with as many as 40 employers and 40 veterans and 157 total job seekers as the job fair was open to the public.
  • Business Forums- In October, we hosted four industry business forums which provided updates on the Healthcare, Education, Manufacturing and Transportation industries. The forums created an opportunity for industry leaders and professionals to discuss current trends and to develop future strategies to build a world-class workforce.
  • NDEAM - Inclusion Works! - With October being National Disability Awareness Month, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas hosted the Inclusion Works seminar where employers, teachers, special education specialist, and disabled citizens heard from guest speaker, Dr. Temple Grandin, an award-winning author, professor and an Autism advocate. Other speakers included Allison Schaberg, Consolidated Planning group, and Ashley Ford, Director of Public Advocacy for the Arc of Texas. All audience members received copies of Grandin's books.
  • Rapid Response- In October Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas hosted four rapid response orientations for Invista and International Paper in Southeast Texas after notification of layoffs due to plant closures in Orange, Texas. As many as 700 individuals were affected by the closures. Our Rapid Response teams assisted workers looking for new employment and provided important details on Unemployment Insurance benefit requirements.
  • Connect to Your Future Summit- In 2023, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas hosted the first Connect to Your Future Summit, a kickoff event for the Youth Career Expo, the largest student outreach event in Southeast Texas. Rich Froeschle, Senior Labor Market Economist at Texas State Technical College, provided a significant update of labor market trends with an emphasis on a talent pipeline that supports students, dislocated workers, and employers.
  • Local First - CP Chem awarded Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas $200,000 to invent and manage an online portal, Local First, for residents to apply for jobs related to the Golden Triangle Polymers project. The Local First Job Fair held in June produced record attendance of over 900 participants.
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas board and staff sends season's greetings and best wishes for 2024. We want to thank you for all your generous support to Jefferson, Orange, Hardin Counties, and surrounding communities. The new year will bring more opportunities to Southeast Texas as we expand the evolving petrochemical, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and education industries.
