Southeast Texas Labor Market Information Overview - November 2019
Southeast Texas' unemployment rate for November was 5.2 percent, just slightly higher than October's rate of 5.0 percent. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates decline in several local industries:
  • Mining, Logging and Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Financial Activities
  • Education and Health Services
  • Leisure and Hospitality
  • Professional Business Services
"Although we experienced a slight uptick in unemployment, the Southeast Texas economy is positioned to generate many jobs in the next several months," commented Marilyn Smith. "Our objective is to continue to assist job seekers wanting to improve their skills and take advantage of the high wage/high demand jobs projected for our area."

Positive job growth was indicated in other industries in Southeast Texas including the Retail Trade/General Merchandise Stores sector, Transportation, Warehousing and Utilities and Local Government.

The state of Texas continues to experience high employment overall and posted a 3.4 percent unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) in November.
