Team Industries dba Team Fabricators LLC was recognized at the 20th Annual Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Workforce Conference as the 2016 Local Employer of Excellence for Southeast Texas. Team was selected by Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas for the award for their commitment to partnering with the workforce system to make a positive impact on workers and the local community through activities such as innovative training initiatives.

Team Fabricators, a leader in on-time delivery of high-quality pipe fabrications and fabricated vessels, serves customers throughout the United States in the refining and petrochemical industries. Since 2008, the Team Fabricators Port Arthur location has employed welders and pipe fabricators to meet the needs of the heavy pipe industry. The company partnered with Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas and the Port Arthur Economic Development Council to pilot a welding training model to support a highly skilled workforce, as well as economic growth and job opportunity for the community. With the help of a TWC High-Demand Job Training grant, a 12-month training program was initiated to allow employees to become certified welders.

Trainees were paid an hourly stipend between $14.00 and $20.00 based on pre-assessment skills tests. Twenty-five participants were trained. Upon completion, 19 trainees went to work for Team and others joined Union Apprenticeship programs.

“Being selected as the Employer of Excellence for 2016 was such an honor. Words can't express our gratitude and enthusiasm at receiving this award”, stated David Cherry, plant manager. “The training program that we've been able to institute, thanks to Workforce Solutions and the Port Arthur EDC, has been a boon for Team Fabricators but the real beneficiaries of this program are the people who have received the training. This program has the potential to change the lives of the participants, some of whom who would have otherwise never been able to receive such a fantastic opportunity.” David Cherry, plant manager, Team Fabricators Port Arthur, and Jim New, business development manager, Team Fabricators Houston, attended the conference luncheon to accept the award on December 12, 2016 in Houston, TX.
