Southeast Texas Works Podcast! From Dollars to Hard Hats: Exploring Careers in Finance and Construction
Two podcast episodes were released in August of Southeast Texas Works featuring engaging discussions with local employers in both the finance and construction industries.
On our first podcast of the month, we welcome Daniel Marshall, Division Experience Center Manager, and Lori Higgins, Assistant Vice President of
Business & Community Development, from Rave Financial. The duo discusses the credit union's growth across Southeast Texas, the rising demand for
financial careers, and how the company uses innovative programs to help students, employees, and communities build lasting financial skills.
With more financial centers opening and virtual services expanding, Rave is seeing heightened demand for financial managers—a trend that aligns with
the Southeast Texas Workforce Development Board's Target Occupations List. Marshall explains that while there's no single “required” degree to advance,
success in today's industry is built on soft skills and technical aptitude. Higgins introduces Money Better, Rave's longstanding financial health
program that brings practical money conversations to the community.
Our second podcast in August features Zeke Smith, Director of Marketing and Workforce Development for Apache Industrial, to explore the pathways available
in the construction and industrial services sector. Smith shares how Apache is building its workforce through registered apprenticeship programs in
construction trades as well as through its Manager in Training program, which develops the next generation of foremen, superintendents, and construction managers.
Smith covers the company's efforts to promote the industry to women and veterans and how Apache partners with training providers and community groups to
strengthen the workforce pipeline. Youth outreach is a major focus, with initiatives designed to recruit and prepare the next generation of skilled trades talent.
Both podcasts offer a behind-the-scenes look at two key industries in Southeast Texas — showing what it takes to get started, how to advance your career,
and the ways Rave Financial and Apache Industrial are impacting workforce development by building talent pipelines.
