Update: Workforce Resumes Operations after Hurricane Laura
Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas will resume regular business hours Monday, August 31, 2020.
Services will continue to be provided virtually, via our website,
www.setworks.org
, which is available 24/7. Employers and job seekers may continue to contact
workforce staff for recruitment and employment assistance via our toll free number,
1-877-834-5627, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In-person requests are available by appointment only
(Beaumont Workforce Solutions Center). Live CHAT! is also accessible through setworks.org,
during regular business hours. We encourage our community to utilize our virtual services
for secure communications.
Business and Employer Resources
During this time of crisis, the hurricane storm season and the COVID-19 pandemic,
Workforce Solutions continues to provide resources to businesses to assist with managing
company operations and manpower.
The
Shared Work program can assist employers avoid layoffs and help retain their workers
during a slow-down or temporary closure. Shared Work provides employees who choose to
participate the ability to receive unemployment insurance benefits when their normal
working hours are reduced. Companies that participate in Shared Work are required to
follow the
Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) guidelines.

August 2020 - UI Claimant Outreach Update
In August, the Southeast Texas workforce outreach to Unemployment Insurance (UI)
benefits claimants was abbreviated due to the mandatory evacuation for Hurricane
Laura. Staff assisted UI Claimants with completing WorkInTexas.com applications,
updating and uploading Resumes, in addition to offering training opportunities and
providing referrals to appropriate jobs.

Welcome New Board Member - Diana Nguyen
The Texas Workforce Commission approved the appointment of Diana Nguyen, program manager,
to the Southeast Texas Workforce Development Board. Nguyen is an eligibility unit supervisor
for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and will represent the public assistance
agency on the Board.

Southeast Texas Labor Market Information Overview: July 2020
Southeast Texas unemployment rate of 11.9 percent reflected a slight improvement from June's rate
of 12.5 percent. Data from the Texas Workforce Commission indicates as many as 20,000
individuals in Jefferson, Orange, Hardin and Newton counties remain unemployed in July.
