Success Story - Don't Stop Achieving
Larissa Haynes needed guidance and assistance on how to reach her primary goal to become licensed and earn better wages in the medical field, a high demand industry in Southeast Texas. She wanted to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse and maintain self-sufficiency for her family.

The Workforce career specialist enrolled Larissa in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. Larissa also embarked on job search as she started classroom training at Lamar State College-Orange for the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program. She received transportation assistance and also received help to cover cost of state licensing testing. Larissa graduated as began working as a care giver. Unfortunately, Larissa did not pass the required assessment on her first try. However, on the second time in taking her state board examination, she passed and received her official LVN certification.

Larissa now works at a local hospital earning wages of $16.50 per hour. She feels that the WIOA program, in addition to the support and counseling from her workforce career specialist, helped her on her path to improve her education and earn her certification as an LVN. Larissa commented that she wants her children and others to realize "goals are achievable, at any age, and never quit", even in the face of adversity.
