Port Arthur ISD Career and Technology Department administrators and teachers worked diligently with Workforce Center career specialists to prepare current 11th and 12th grade Career and Technology (CTE) students to meet with employers at the Spring Hiring Event Job Fair. Shannon Galvan, workforce career specialist, provided job-readiness sessions at Memorial High School for Business Management CTE students during the spring. These workforce sessions complimented class curriculum and included interviewing skills, resume preparation, and completing job applications.

Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas encourages our employers and job seekers to be aware of the newest job scam which take advantage of unsuspecting users: delivering pay checks by direct deposit. This current scam appears as a job offer from a legitimate employer which requests the job seeker’s personal information. Other scams have included fake job postings which ask the job seeker to pay for the job or other items through their bank accounts.

Latest Labor Market Stats |
Data released by the Texas Workforce Commission today indicates slight increase in the March 2016 unemployment rate for Southeast Texas to 6.4 percent, up .2 percent from February. The decrease in the labor force for March 2016 may be the initial results of the flood disaster in Orange, Newton and surrounding counties in the Southeast Texas labor shed.
