March Labor Market Figures
Numbers released today from the Texas Workforce Commission maintained the trend toward continued improvement in the employment picture. March’s unemployment numbers dropped in most areas over the prior month and held steady against figures from one year ago. Statistics indicate a steady improvement in employment in Port Arthur. Unemployment figures for that area dropped 0.7% from February and 1.5% from last year.

“We continue to work with employers and local officials in developing new job opportunities that chip away at the unemployment numbers in our area,” says Marilyn Smith, executive director of Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas. “We can see positive effects of the increased hiring in our industrial sector due to the start of new industrial and refinery projects.”
