Becon Construction Company – “On-Demand” Workforce Partnership

Successful workforce business solutions for local employers are exemplified by the long-standing partnership between Becon Construction and the Port Arthur Workforce Center staff.

Becon Construction, a subsidiary of Bechtel Corporation, is currently the lead contractor for Cheniere Energy/Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project, one of the largest industrial construction projects slated for Southeast Texas. To fill positions for skilled workers experienced in industrial construction, Becon and Workforce created a customized services contract for office space in the Center for company recruiters and administrative personnel.

Since December 2012, Becon has been “on the front line” of recruiting, assessing, and orientating new workers for the LNG project at the Center. According to Employer Solutions Lead Greg Stewart, Becon accepted more than 2,000 job applications and has hired as many as 150 employees. Some workers transitioned from other industrial projects in the area and were able to continue employment without the need for unemployment benefits.

According to Brenda Ogburn, recruiter for Becon Construction, “We have thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with the Center. The staff has been professional, courteous, welcoming and shows true concern for establishing a solid partnership that meets our hiring needs.”
