Texas Workforce Commission Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public, Andres Alcantar, was guest speaker at the April 10th Business Development Week session. Chairman Alcantar spoke to a group of attendees about TWC’s services and programs designed to create an effective workforce system and promote economic growth for individuals, communities, and businesses. Alcantar also spoke about the positive business climate in Texas mentioning that the state leads the nation in business growth, development, and employment.

Sonia Gaillard, representing Small Business Development, Office of the Governor, opened the morning session with a short welcome video clip from Governor Perry. Diane Mosley, program specialist for TWC Skills Development Division, spoke to the audience about business programs and services including easy-access to employer training funds through Skills for Small Business. Ira McNeil, business solutions consultant for the Board, followed with information regarding Work Opportunity Tax Credit for businesses and utilizing WorkIntexas.com to recruit skilled workers at no cost.

After the opening session, Chairman Alcantar also hosted a “Meet and Greet” in which he visited with several local business leaders and elected officials. Alcantar emphasized local control, through the workforce boards, for establishing workforce improvements and the importance of creating and maintaining industry based partnerships.
