Three Things You Need to Know
1. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates 70 years of existence to promote and create awareness of the contributions of workers with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law in 1990, stands to increase the participation of people with disabilities in “all aspects of community life”, including employment. 2. Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas YOUTH CAREER EXPO – New Date!

After consulting with our local school districts through Region 5 Education Service Center (ESC), we are pleased to announce Thursday, February 1st, 2018 as the date for the 3rd Annual Youth Career Expo. Exhibitor booth set-up is Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Ford Park. Our students need your participation to learn and experience the various career opportunities available in Southeast Texas. If you registered as an Exhibitor before Hurricane Harvey, there is no need to re-register. Contact us at business.solutions@setworks.org, if you have questions. Please mark your calendar!

3. Target Occupations List – New Occupations Added

On October 3, 2017, the workforce development board voted unanimously to add additional occupations to the Target Occupations list for Southeast Texas. Two occupations, Automotive Technicians and Electro-Mechanical Technician (Instrumentation and Electrical Technician) were added. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) requires each workforce board to identify occupations in their workforce development area (WDA) that are in-demand, based on projected number of openings, provide a self-sufficient wage/salary, and receive input from industry and local training institutions.
