Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the Department of Labor announced the theme of "Because We Are EQUAL to the Task". According to the recent press release, this year's theme is intended to highlight that individuals with disabilities "have the education, training, experience and desire to be successful in the workplace."

The 82nd Texas Legislative Session passed House Bill (HB) 3616 which also designates October as "Texas Persons with Disabilities History and Awareness Month". The Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities plans to post stories regarding disability history and highlights the achievement of people with disabilities.

TWC Announces HIGH DEMAND Training Initiative

In September, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) announced the availability of $1 Million to assist workforce development boards and their local economic development partners in creation of Occupational Job Training programs to improve worker's skills in high demand job occupations.

The funding will allow Boards to leverage training resources, assist individuals to receive training for demand occupations in their community, and provide employers with improved manpower. The program is intended to strengthen relationships between workforce development and economic development across the state to help ensure our workforce remains skilled and competitive.
